a weekend in late June or early July, 3 days
Free three-day music festival on the beach and in the village since 2011, with stages in front of the hippie caves, on the square and by the bridge; Greek pop-rock headliners, tribute bands and DJ parties, plus street-painting, yoga and kids' activities. Dates move: 4–6 July 2025, 19–21 June 2026. The village is overwhelmed, so stay in Pitsidia or Kalamaki, or book Matala Camping months ahead.

The blue-domed church above Skala beach is Agioi Anargyroi, and its feast on 1 July (vespers on the 30th) is the main panigiri of the port village, with food and music by the church after the service. Agistri is 20 minutes from Aegina by boat, so it is easy to combine with a day on the beach.
30 June – 1 July
Tholaria above Aegiali celebrates its parish saints on 30 June-1 July: great vespers on the eve, liturgy and procession of the icons on the day, and both evenings the whole village eats patatato (goat with potatoes) and xydato (sour meat soup) in the square and dances to violin and laouto. Vegetarian dishes replace the meat if the feast falls on a fasting day. Stay in Aegiali and walk or take the shuttle up.
30 June – 1 July
Karavostamo, the big seaside village between Evdilos and Agios Kirykos, opens its summer with Agioi Anargyroi on the evening of 30 June; the same village does Agia Paraskevi (25 July) and the huge 15 August feast, so it is the busiest panigiri village on the north coast. Food is served at long tables by the cultural association, music is Ikarian violin. Therma on the south coast celebrates the same saints the same night.
30 June – 1 July
Kythnos has four Agioi Anargyroi chapels celebrating on 1 July, but the memorable one is at Dryopida, where the chapel sits at the mouth of the Katafyki cave that villagers once used as a refuge. Vespers on the evening of 30 June is followed by a glenti with violin and laouto; it comes two days after the Apostoloi feast, so a late-June stay in Dryopida catches both.
30 June – 1 July
The seaside parish of Agios Nikolaos in Selinia, on the east coast facing Piraeus, keeps the feast of its icon of Panagia Therapevousa (the Healer) on 30 June-1 July: vespers with artoklasia at 7 pm on the eve, liturgy at 7 am and a procession of the icon along the waterfront. The same church holds a relic of St Nicholas and celebrates again on 5-6 December.
first days of July, 3 days
Dance groups from all over Greece and abroad take over the island for three days at the start of July (1-3 July in 2023, 3-5 July 2026 for the 10th edition), with parades through Patitiri, open rehearsals, evening performances and a closing glenti with local food. Organised by the Cultural Association of Alonnisos; free to watch. It doubles the island's population for a weekend, so book the ferry from Volos early.

A two-night metal and rock festival held since 2002 on the Venetian bastion (East Trench / Anatoliki Tafros open-air theatre) beside the old harbour; the 2025 edition ran 26–27 July with Kreator, Stratovarius, Geoff Tate and Rotting Christ. Tickets sell in advance through the festival's channels and the old town fills up, so book a bed early. Doors open late afternoon and the sea breeze helps with the heat.

The cultural association 'O Makellos' of Pityos, a stone village in the hills of north-central Chios, runs a three-day festival of mountain life: stalls of local products, cheese-making and pasta-making demonstrations (herisia, chontro), workshops for children, shadow theatre and a traditional orchestra each night from 19:00 to midnight. Seventh edition in 2026; food and drink from the association's stalls.
mid-July, 1 evening
The Cultural Society of Limni fries and grills the local catch on the harbour one evening in mid-July (18 July in 2026) with wine and a live orchestra; a week later, on 23-24 July, the same quay hosts the 'Solid Greece Taste' gastronomy festival of Central Greece products. Both free; fish runs out early so do not dawdle over the ouzo.

A summer arts programme rather than a single event: theatre, open-air film screenings and classical and Greek music concerts staged in the Kastro lanes of Chora, at Karavostasi harbour and in Ano Meria, with exhibitions in the neoclassical old school in Chora running all summer. Dates change yearly and are posted on the municipality's site and on posters around Chora in early July.

Fournoi thyme honey is the island's pride, and the professionals' association with the municipality celebrate it with an evening on the harbour square: a re-enactment of the honey harvest, traditional dances, dishes cooked with honey, goat and mezedes. Held on a Saturday around the turn of July/August (2 August in 2025). Free, and a good night to buy honey straight from the beekeepers.

Two evenings of mandolin music, the instrument of old Halki, on the steps of Agios Nikolaos and on the harbour (21-22 July in 2026), with Cretan and Dodecanese players. Informal; bring a chair or grab a taverna table on the front.
1 July to late September
The municipality's summer season: over 130 concerts, plays, dance and children's shows at the Nikos Kazantzakis open-air theatre by the Venetian walls, the Manos Hatzidakis theatre and the Vethlehem bastion (1 July – 21 September in 2025), with an open-air cinema and forty-odd free events. The Festival of the Walls closes it in early September. Tickets go on sale per event on the municipality site; the Kazantzakis theatre is a ten-minute walk from Lions Square.
late July, 3 days
Ross Daly's Labyrinth musical workshop stages three nights of modal music from Crete to Persia and Azerbaijan on stages in its garden, a cave and the Hatzines house (23–25 July in 2025), with instrument exhibitions and dance. The village road closes at 8 pm and shuttle buses run from Peza town hall, so leave the car there. Tickets via Labyrinth's site.
last Saturday of July
Perachori, the wine village on the hill above Vathy, opens its barrels on the last Saturday of July in the yard of the old primary school: a small entry fee gets you a cup and as much of the local wine as you can manage, with food stalls and a live band for dancing all night. It is a 10-minute drive up from Vathy, so a taxi down is the wise plan.

Three-day traditional weddings in Olympos still happen in the original form — costumes, music, lyra. If you're in Karpathos and a wedding is happening, all visitors welcome.

Running since the early 2000s, the Centre for the Study of Myths and Fairytales brings Greek and international storytellers to Kea for ten evenings of tales in remarkable settings — the ancient theatre at Karthaia, the spring at Ellinika, the Otzias waterfront, the quarry at Orkos, the Ioulida theatre. Performances are free and mostly in Greek (some in English); the 24th edition was 17–26 July 2026. Some venues are reached on foot along the old paths, so check the programme for walking times.

The municipality of Lixouri and the local fishermen grill sardines by the tonne outside the Ionian Aquarium on the harbour, pour local wine and put on an orchestra for dancing; free, from 9:30pm. It moves around — 3 August in 2023, 28 July in 2026 — so check the Lixouri summer programme; the ferry from Argostoli runs late on the night.

Annual cultural festival named after the island's most famous son. Open-air concerts, theatre, the symbolic re-reading of the Hippocratic Oath at the Asklepieion archaeological site. Major draws are the dance performances and ancient drama productions in atmospheric settings.

Eastern Crete's big summer festival, named after the 17th-century Sitia-born poet Vitsentzos Kornaros, author of 'Erotokritos'. Six weeks of concerts, dance, theatre and exhibitions in and around the Venetian Kazarma fortress, plus village panigiria with raki, Cretan bands and communal tables. One of the most honest cultural experiences on the island.

Ierapetra's municipal summer festival: concerts at the Kales fortress on the harbour and the 3rd Gymnasium yard, theatre, shadow puppetry and a 'White Night' on Eleftherias Square, plus village events in Myrtos, Pacheia Ammos, Gra Lygia and Ferma. Runs from the first days of July to mid-August (3 July – 6 August in 2025). The programme is published on the municipality site in June; most events are free.
a Saturday evening in the second half of July
Since 1984 the Apollon society of Karya has thrown a summer evening in the plane-tree square devoted to riganada, the Lefkadian peasant snack of dry bread soaked in water and doused with oregano, olive oil, vinegar and coarse salt, served with olives, salted sardines and local wine, then a live orchestra and dancing. Recent editions have been on a Saturday around 20–23 July at 8:30pm; check the Apollon Karyas Facebook page in early July for the exact date.

The 'big panigiri of Ifaistia' is the summer night of Kontopouli, the main village of eastern Lemnos near ancient Hephaistia, organised by the Ifaistia sports club in the square from 21:00 with two bands (Dimitris Mavrakis's group and Nikos Fakaros & the Musicaroi in 2026). Island and traditional music, dancing until late, food from the club. Date is set each year in late July; check limnosfm100.gr.

The largest ouzo celebration in Greece, running since 1981 in the Epano Skala neighborhood of Mytilene with parallel events in Plomari (the ouzo capital). 40+ labels for tasting, traditional dances, local food. Free admission.
last days of July to first Sunday of August (28 Jul-2 Aug 2026)
Lesvos's biggest summer event, in its 39th year in 2026: the Kalloni gulf's famous sardines are grilled and given away free with ouzo on the waterfront of Skala Kallonis, with live music, dancing, chef demonstrations and exhibitions over several evenings, peaking on the final night when 5,000+ people turn up. Organised by the Kalloni community and the Municipality of West Lesvos. Accommodation in Skala fills; stay in Kalloni or Petra and drive.
one evening in the first half of July (2 July per the municipality; 22 July in 2023)
The fishermen and the Naoussa cultural association fry fresh fish on the old harbour and hand it out free with local wine, followed by an island glenti with violins and dancing until late. Dates drift from year to year (the municipal calendar says early July, but it has also been held in the third week), so check posters in Naoussa a week ahead. Parking in Naoussa is hopeless that night; come by bus or early.
second half of July, 2 weeks · Poros / Galatas
The municipality's lemon fortnight (17-31 July in 2025) celebrates the Lemonodasos, the 30,000-tree lemon grove across the strait at Galatas: lemon sweets and liqueurs, tastings, concerts and walks in the grove. Cross by the two-minute water taxi from the Poros waterfront.
Late July through early September
Running since 1987, Rethymno turns its Venetian past into a summer-long stage. Theatre, music and dance — Cretan Renaissance works alongside Shakespeare and Molière — staged mostly at the open-air Erofili theatre inside the Fortezza, the great fortress above the old town. Book ahead for the headline nights.

Three evenings of concerts, exhibitions and a memorial service at the open-air theatre of Agios Yakinthos on the Psiloritis slopes above Anogia (feast of St Hyacinth, 3 July, is the anchor; the festival itself is held late July, 25–27 July in 2025, its 27th year). Entry is free; Anogia women in traditional dress serve mountain tea and local products. The theatre is at altitude, so bring a jacket, and drive up before dark.
early July, 5 days (2-6 Jul 2026) · Chora and villages
A small independent theatre-and-music festival, fifth edition in 2026, staged in old schools, kafeneia and the forest square of the island's villages in early July: adult and children's theatre, traditional performances, free or cheap tickets. July and August
On the pine-covered Bourtzi peninsula between the two harbours — a former fortress, now a cultural centre — Skiathos stages a summer of open-air theatre, concerts, film and shadow-puppet (Karagiozis) nights. It takes its name from a story by Alexandros Papadiamantis, the island's great writer, who is honoured here. Free or low-cost, and walkable from town.
late July, 1 evening
An evening in the schoolyard of Glossa (31 July 2026, and a previous edition in 2025) built around the village's three crops, almonds, plums and olives: a chef cooks local recipes live, there is a home-recipe competition, dances from the Glossa association and a local band, run by the Association of Glossa natives with the Region of Thessaly and the municipality. Free; go for the plum-and-almond sweets and stay for the dancing.
early July, 4 days
Four nights of rebetiko concerts and talks in the Chora, run by the island's Cultural and Folklore Society under the Ministry of Culture: 1-4 July in 2025, 7-10 July in 2026, with stages below Panagitsa tou Pyrgou on the harbour, the Vakratsa mansion and the KAPI club. Free or cheap, and the crowd is a mix of Athenian rebetiko fans and locals. Early July is still pre-peak, so it is a good week to combine with the Agioi Anargyroi dance evening on 1 July.
July to September, most nights in August · Gialos / Chorio
Three-month cultural festival across Symi: classical and traditional music, theatre, dance, art exhibitions in venues like Panormitis monastery, the Symi Naval Museum, and various harborside squares. Refreshingly substantive for an island this small.
late July to mid-August, several nights (main rebetiko gathering 9-10 August)
Ano Syros, birthplace of Markos Vamvakaris, hosts rebetiko nights in its stepped lanes and at the small square below the Catholic cathedral: concerts, bouzouki and baglama workshops and an instrument exhibition, with the 'August moons' gathering around 9-10 August. Free or cheap; wear shoes for the 500-odd steps up from Ermoupoli.
10-11 July
The mountain village of Maries in the west keeps its own St John feast on 10-11 July with a procession of the icon and a two-day village panigiri, listed each year in the municipal programme. Maries is a stone village at the end of a gorge road above Skala Marion; go for the panigiri and the walk to the lake.

Dyo Choria, a village of springs and plane trees above the Chora-Steni road, celebrates the wild oregano its people gather on the mountain with a glenti in the square: oregano-flavoured dishes and meze from the association, wine and violin-and-laouto (Tsoumpos and Manesis in 2026) until late, free entry. Parking is on the road above the village.
second weekend of July (Saturday–Sunday)
Machairado's church of Agioi Timotheos and Mavra, with its famous bell tower and miracle-working icon, holds its big 'summer panigiri' on the second weekend of July (13–14 July in 2019, 8–9 July in 2023) rather than on the saints' May feast: hierarchical vespers and procession of the icon on Saturday, liturgy with the Metropolitan on Sunday, and a village fair with stalls, food and music around the square. It is the largest inland panigiri on Zakynthos; 20 minutes from town.
4–5 July
Skiathos' second feast of its patroness marks the finding of the icon in a pine tree in 1655. On the evening of 4 July the icon is carried from Treis Ierarches to the church of Genniseos tis Theotokou for vespers with several bishops, and on the morning of the 5th, after the liturgy, it is processed through the streets of the Chora. Pilgrims come from the mainland, so the town churches are packed; it is a religious event with no glenti attached.
6–7 July
Limenaria, the quiet old village at the south end of the island, keeps Agia Kyriaki on 7 July with a liturgy and a small feast; it is the most local of Agistri's three feasts and a good excuse to walk the pine road from Megalochori.
6–7 July
The chapel of Agia Kyriaki sits on the rock across the bay from Vlycho, and the village's panigiri around her feast (6–7 July) has grown into the biggest folk-music night of the Lefkada summer, with name clarinet players from Epirus and Aitoloakarnania booked each year and dancing on the waterfront until dawn. Held on or just before 7 July; expect crowds from the mainland, get there by 10pm and park on the Nydri road.
6–7 July
Mykonian panigiria are run by the families who own the chapels, and Agia Kyriaki on 7 July is one of the few in town: vespers with artoklasia on the evening of the 6th, then wine, boiled lamb, kremidopita and kopanisti for everyone, with tsambouna and toumbaki and dancing into the night. Rural chapels at Mikres and Megales Diles celebrate the same saint the same night.
6–7 July
At the chapel of Agia Kyriaki on the edge of Koumaradaioi, on the road to Pyrgos, the village's church-and-volunteer-firefighters association stages a feast on the evening of 6 July with an island-music orchestra in the church courtyard and the road outside, souvlaki, paspalas (the local pork-and-egg dish), pancakes and salads; liturgy and refreshments follow on the morning of the 7th. A classic inland Samos panigiri, 20 minutes from Pythagoreio.
9–12 July
Elafonisos celebrates its union with Greece (6 July 1850) and the consecration of its harbour church together: bells and flags on the 6th, and on the 9th a hierarchical liturgy with the Metropolitan of Monemvasia and Sparta followed by a procession of the icon of Agios Spyridon around the harbour with children in costume, then cultural performances on the harbour square in the evening. Early July is quieter and cheaper than August on the island.
12–13 July
Vathy's whitewashed Taxiarchis monastery right on the beach celebrates twice a year; the summer feast is on the evening of 12 July (Synaxis of Archangel Gabriel), with vespers, then revithada and braised lamb at the monastery tables and a violin-and-laouto takimi. Same night the chapel of Ai-Silivestros on the Cheronissos road also celebrates. The village has a small car park; many people come by boat from Kamares.
13 July
Mathraki's one big night is the 13 July feast of the miracle of Agios Spyridon (also linked locally to a sight-restoring miracle of Agios Theodoros), organised by the Diapolos cultural association with live music and food in the village; in 2022 it was held on Thursday 14 July, so the date shifts a day for the boat. A free boat leaves Agios Stefanos (Corfu) at 5pm and returns after midnight, weather permitting — ring the association to confirm.
13–14 July · Naxos Chora
St Nikodimos the Hagiorite was born in Naxos town and is the island's patron: on the evening of 13 July there is a multi-bishop vespers at his church in Chora, on the 14th the liturgy, and in the evening the procession of his icon and relics through the streets of the town with the band and the authorities. Religious rather than a food panigiri, but the town is at its most festive.
14–15 July
Steni, the plane-tree village at the foot of Dirfys, keeps 15 July at its chapel of Agioi Kirykos and Ioulitta with a liturgy (the Metropolitan of Chalkida presided in 2018) and a breakfast laid on by the parish council afterwards; the same village hosts a municipal trade fair (emporopanigyri) at the end of August. Cool mountain air and tavernas on the stream make it a pleasant July escape from Chalkida.
15 July
The island capital's own feast, for its patron saints Kirykos and Ioulitta — the warm-up to Ikaria's big mid-summer run. Tables fill the square, the wine is from the barrel, and the Ikariotiko dancing builds long past midnight.
16–17 July
The resort of Agia Marina on the east coast takes its name from the church, and on the evening of 16 July, after vespers, the Oinoi cultural association's dance groups perform and a traditional glenti open to all follows, with food and live music. It is the beach-town panigiri of the island; buses from Aegina town run late that night, or stay over and swim in the morning.
16–17 July
The monastery of Agia Marina above the spring village of Apoikia, north of Chora, is Andros's big pilgrimage of the summer: a vigil on the night of 16 July and the liturgy on the 17th draw thousands, and the monks offer food to pilgrims. Palaiopoli on the west coast keeps a village feast for the same saint, with house-to-house visits and instruments. Park below the monastery and walk the last stretch.
16–18 July · Antiparos (Chora)
Antiparos turns the feast of Agia Marina (17 July) into a three-day harbour festival around 15-17 July: a sailing race, a swim and a street run in the days before, then the icon procession on the 17th, prize-giving for the athletes, dancing, songs and kerasmata on the quay. It is the island's main summer event, so book a room if you want to stay over.
16–17 July
Benitses celebrates Agia Marina over two nights, 16 and 17 July, with a litany of the icon through the village and live traditional music on the harbour square, food from the local associations and dancing. Agia Marina is also kept in Spartera, Avliotes and Karousades the same night if you are in the north.
16–17 July
The beach hamlet of Agali celebrates its Agia Marina on the evening of 16 July: vespers, then food and wine offered by the families and violin-and-laouto music with the locals leading the dances. It's the first of the island's summer panigiria and small enough that everyone ends up in the same circle. Take the bus down from Chora — the road is steep and parking at Agali is scarce.
16–17 July
The monastery of Agia Marina at Voni in the Pediada is Crete's main Agia Marina pilgrimage: from the evening of 16 July queues of pilgrims stretch out of the two churches (the tiny old one and the big new one), people sleep in the courtyard to fulfil vows, and stalls and a glenti fill the road outside. Come on the eve for the atmosphere; the morning liturgy on the 17th is packed and parking is a kilometre away on the Kastelli road.
16–17 July
Exogi is the highest village on Ithaca, and its panigiri for Agia Marina fills the small square with its huge view over the north of the island: service in the evening, then food, wine and live music with dancing that often goes to sunrise. The road up from Stavros is narrow with hairpins; go up before dark and park at the entrance to the village.

Menetes, the amphitheatre village above Pigadia, feasts Agia Marina on 16-17 July with a glendi of Karpathian music and free food after the vespers. The same village runs the Agios Ioannis feast at Afiarti on 29 August. Ten minutes from Pigadia; there is a small folklore museum worth seeing while you are there.

The largest village on Kasos feasts its namesake saint on 16-17 July with a glendi of lyra and laouto, free wine and food on the square. Agia Marina also hosts the Transfiguration (6 August) and Holy Cross (14 September) feasts. Fifteen minutes' walk uphill from Fry.
16–17 July
The port's summer feast at the chapel of Agia Marina in Merichas, on the evening of 16 July, with a glenti with island violin and laouto after vespers; the Agia Marina at Lefkes celebrates the same night. It's the easiest Kythnos panigiri to reach — you can walk from the ferry — and the harbour tavernas stay open late for it.
16–17 July
The 'Argonautes' club of Androni, just outside Myrina, opens the Lemnos panigiri season with Agia Marina on the evening of 16 July in the village park, and repeats the formula for Agios Panteleimon on 26 July with a full Lemnian orchestra (Mavrakis family violins in 2026). Souvlaki, local wine and island dances; ten minutes from Myrina by car. Nea Koutali and Livadochori also keep Agia Marina with church feasts.
16–17 July
The patron feast of Leros' capital: on the evening of 16 July the metropolitan leads a grand vespers at the 1933 church, then the icon is carried through the lanes down to the harbour with the municipal band, and the party continues in the cafes along the waterfront; liturgy and a reception with local sweets on the 17th. Stay in Agia Marina or Platanos so you can walk.
16–17 July
On the evening of 16 July the Triovasalos beautification society throws a free glenti in the courtyard of Agia Marina from 21:30, with live traditional musicians (violin, laouto, vocals) and dancing until late. The chapel of Agia Marina at Chalakas holds its own smaller feast the same evening straight after vespers, so locals often hop between the two. Park on the main Adamas–Plaka road and walk in; the village lanes fill up.
16–17 July
Koronos, the emery-miners' village stacked up a ravine in the north-east, throws its big feast for Agia Marina on 16-17 July: revithada from the wood oven, rooster in wine sauce, local wine, and Koronos's own violin-and-laouto tradition until dawn. The road from Chora is 45 minutes of bends; park where the tarmac widens above the village and walk down the steps.
16–17 July
Kostos, the small hill village between Parikia and Lefkes, keeps the Agia Marina feast on 16-17 July: vespers on the eve, then tables in the square with food from the village association and violin-and-laouto dancing. It is one of the few proper mountain-village panigiria on Paros and much less touristy than anything in Naoussa. Park on the main road below the village and walk up.

Paradisi, the village just past the airport, holds the island's best-known Agia Marina feast on 16-17 July: vespers and procession on the eve, then the square fills with tables, souvlaki and a live band until late. Apolakia in the south does its own Agia Marina on the 16th. Easy to reach by the airport bus; go on the evening of the 16th for the party.
16–17 July · Flambouro (Apollonia area)
The Agia Marina that Sifniots go to is the chapel at Flambouro, behind Profitis Ilias Apsilos: vespers and a morning panigiri on 17 July, with the usual chickpea soup and lamb from the panigyras. Kamares (18 July) and Vathy (19 July) hold their own smaller Agia Marina feasts on the following nights, so you can catch one each evening. It's reached on foot from the Apollonia–Profitis Ilias path; wear proper shoes.
16–17 July
The chapel above Agia Marina beach, a 20-minute walk east of the Old Harbour, keeps 17 July with vespers on the eve and a liturgy on the day, and the beach bars below take the overflow. Small and mostly for the locals; combine it with a swim.

Boats shuttle from Pedi and Gialos to the chapel islet of Agia Marina off Symi's north-east tip for vespers on 16 July and a feast on the islet with fried fish and wine. One of the prettiest panigiri settings in the Dodecanese; go over before sunset.

The first summer panigiri of Fournoi: liturgy at the chapel of Agia Marina in the Varela area, then from about 21:00 the cultural association takes over the village square with live island music, goat, mezedes and wine. The whole island turns up, so arrive early for a table.

The capital's big day: 17 July is both Agia Marina and the anniversary of the 1912 Ikarian uprising, so there is a morning doxology and parade, then in the evening the PAS Ikaros club runs a panigiri on the marina with an Ikarian orchestra (Marios and company in recent years). Expect goat, wine by the kilo and the ikariotikos danced in long chains until late. Ferries and rooms in town fill for this weekend; walk in, there is no parking near the harbour.

The quieter alternative to the capital's 17 July: a traditional day panigiri in the mountain village of Arethousa above Evdilos, starting after the liturgy and running through the afternoon with goat, wine and violin. Smaller crowd, more locals, more room to dance. Katafygi near Agios Kirykos holds its Agia Marina feast the evening before (16 July).

The 'Giorti tou Otzia', co-organised by the municipality and the local society on 17 July (Agia Marina's day) from 20:00 on the waterfront: food from the village associations, live island music and dancing by the sea. The bay's tavernas are the fallback for dinner if the queues get long; it's a 15-minute drive from Korissia.

Angeria, the farming village on the road to Paliochori, celebrates its Agios Aimilianos with vespers at 20:00 on 17 July followed by a courtyard glenti with violin and laouto players from the island, and liturgy at 07:00 next morning. A canteen sells local food and drink, so come hungry; it's a low-key, mostly local affair — a good pick if you find the Adamas feasts too busy.

The first of Samothrace's summer panigiria, in the farming village of Alonia below Chora, organised by the island's cultural association 'Saos'. After the morning liturgy the village serves the Samothracian classic, gorgovrasto (quick-boiled goat), and there is dancing to local music. Simple, cheap and genuinely local.
19–20 July
Magoulades, in the hills of the north-west behind Arillas, is the Corfu village that celebrates Profitis Ilias, with vespers on the 19th and a panigiri in the square with a Corfiot orchestra and tables of food; Perithia, Dragotina and Kalafationes also keep the day. It is a genuine inland village night, ten minutes from the Arillas and Agios Stefanos beaches.
19–20 July
Kioni's chapel of Profitis Ilias is built on a rock at the water's edge, so villagers arrive for the liturgy in small fishing boats, and the party afterwards is on the beach with a live orchestra playing beside the sea. It is one of the prettiest settings for a panigiri anywhere in the Ionian; Kioni is tiny, so book a room well ahead or drive over from Vathy (40 min).
19–20 July · Pano Koufonisi
The chapel of Profitis Ilias on the island's low summit celebrates on 19-20 July with vespers and an island glenti afterwards: food, wine and violins. Small and easy to reach on foot from the village.
19–21 July
Pelopi, a horse-breeding village in the north-east, makes Profitis Ilias a three-day affair (18-20 July) with a mounted parade, horse 'beauty' contests, traditional food and music. Profitis Ilias is also kept with a bull procession and kiskek in Agiasos, a horseback pilgrimage in Skalochori and dancing in Vatera. If horses are your thing, Pelopi is the one.
19–20 July
Milos has several hilltop Profitis Ilias chapels; the ones at Chalakas and Tramythia (and Komia) are the ones that actually celebrate, with vespers on the evening of 19 July and a small glenti with island musicians at Chalakas. It's a chapel feast rather than a village square party — bring a jumper for the breeze and a torch for the dirt track back to the car.
19–20 July · Pandroso
The Pandroso cultural association 'Agios Dimitrios' hosts a two-day feast at the chapel on the 1,150 m summit of Mount Karvounis (Ampelos): vespers on the evening of 19 July followed by a glendi with violin and laouto, mezedes and drink just below the peak, camping allowed overnight, then liturgy and a communal meal on the 20th. Drive to Pandroso and follow the track; bring warm clothes and a torch.

The monastery of Profitis Ilias on Santorini's highest point above Pyrgos celebrates on 19-20 July with a vespers on the eve and the liturgy on the day, followed by kerasmata for pilgrims and a panigiri down in Pyrgos with local wine, food and music. The road up is narrow and parking at the top is scarce; go early or walk up from Pyrgos.

Profitis Ilias is celebrated at the chapels of Vounia and Xero Chorio in the island's interior on the evening of 19 July, with the classic Serifos panigiri table — fava with olives and onion, boiled goat with potatoes, pasta with goat stew — and wine that doesn't stop. Some years there's a live violin; ask in Chora. These are hamlet feasts with no facilities, so eat what's offered and bring water.
19–20 July · Profitis Ilias summit, above Apollonia/Katavati
Pilgrimage on foot to the highest point of the island (680m), where a small chapel sits on the summit. Locals walk up before dawn.

The municipality organises a proper panigiri at the hill chapel of Profitis Ilias on 20 July, with musicians, food and dancing for locals and visitors together — the mayor's own posts confirm it as an annual fixture. The chapel is reached on foot from the Chora–Episkopi road; take water and a torch for the way down.

Profitis Ilias is kept at two hilltop chapels, Ai-Lias o Psilos on the night of 19-20 July and the Ai-Lias at Trachy on the 20th, with the tavles of pilaf and goat after the service and music until dawn. Dirt-road access; go with a local or a 4x4 and a torch.

The hill village of Piskopio above Ermoupoli celebrates Profitis Ilias on 19-20 July with vespers and a panigiri that opens the Syros summer: island food, wine, violin and laouto in the square. Easy to reach by taxi from town.

The mountain village of Drymona, above the waterfall of the same name, holds its Profitis Ilias panigiri in the schoolyard on 20 July with a live orchestra, grilled meat and dancing; it is in the municipal programme. Combine with a swim at the Drymona falls in the afternoon and drive carefully down the bends afterwards.

Profitis Ilias always sits on a summit, so these panigiria happen at hilltop chapels with the whole island spread out below and the dancing under the stars. Several villages celebrate the same night.

The wine village on the old Sitia–Agios Nikolaos road holds its Profitis Ilias feast on the evening of 20 July with several local lyra players and a token entry (5 euros in 2025) covering food and Mouliana wine. Part of the Kornaria programme of the Municipality of Sitia; it starts at 9 pm and parking is along the main road.

The mountain village of Profitis Ilias in the south-west, famous for its goat tavernas, keeps its patron's day on 20 July with gorgovrasto after the liturgy, dancing, and roast goat in the evening. The island's best-known panigiri for food; the tavernas are packed, so eat at the communal tables or book.

The feast of Chios's patron saint at her seaside shrine and monastery below Volissos in the Amani region is the island's biggest religious event: thousands walk the roughly 50 km from Chios town overnight on 21 July, sleep on the beach and attend the liturgy on the 22nd, visiting the rocks where holy water springs. The municipality issues walking guidelines each year (left side of the road, torch, water) and bans wild camping; drive slowly, the road is full of pilgrims, and refuel in Vrontados.
22–23 July · Kechrovouni monastery / Chora
On 23 July Tinos remembers the vision of the nun Pelagia that led to the finding of the icon in 1823: after great vespers on the 22nd, the icon of the Megalochari is driven up to the convent of Kechrovouni for the liturgy, pilgrims picnic in the fields around the monastery, and in the late afternoon the icon returns on foot in a procession that snakes 8 km down the mountain to Chora. Walk down with it, but wear shoes for it and bring water.
24–25 July
The two monasteries on the mountain above the town, Profitis Ilias (men) and Agia Efpraxia (women), sit side by side an hour's climb up the mule path. Agia Efpraxia keeps an all-night vigil on 24-25 July with the cathedral's choir and monastic refreshments in the refectory afterwards; Profitis Ilias marks its own feast on 20 July. Go up in the late afternoon when the heat drops and come down by torchlight.
24–25 July · Lakithra (Livathos)
Lakithra, the Livathos village where Byron stayed, celebrates Agia Anna with vespers and a panigiri in the square on the evening of 24 July, with a live orchestra and food and wine from the village association. It opens the busiest fortnight of Livathos panigiria: Faraklata has Agia Paraskevi on the 25th and Fragata a Kefalonian glendi on the 26th.

A week before the sardine festival, Skala Kallonis keeps Agia Anna (25 July) in the old Lesvos style: icon procession, a garlanded bull led through the village, local musicians and kiskek shared on the second day. Smaller and more traditional than the sardine crowds; combine the two if you are on the island for the week.

Agia Paraskevi is the patroness of Alonnisos and her church is in Patitiri, the port: on the evening of 25 July there is a great vespers and a procession of the icon through the streets and along the harbour, and the municipality's panigiri follows on the quay with a traditional orchestra (the Verykokkos family violins in 2025) and dancing until the early hours. Liturgy next morning. It is the island's biggest night after 15 August; ferries arrive right into the party, so book a room in Patitiri or Votsi.
25–26 July · Kato Meria (Kolofana / Arkesini)
The biggest panigiri on Amorgos and one of the biggest in the Cyclades: at the church of Agia Paraskevi in the south of the island, the Kato Meria villages spend ten days preparing, slaughter around 150 goats, and on the evening of 25 July the patatato starts cooking in cauldrons for about 4,000 people who eat free at long tables on the 26th and dance to violins until morning. Bring a car or arrange a lift from Katapola; there is no bus back at 4 a.m.

The Apokoronas market village celebrates its Agia Paraskevi on the evening of 25 July at the springs of Pigadia below the village, with a Cretan kompania (lyra, laouto), grilled meat and wine, and dancing until late; the liturgy is next morning. Parking is on the road into Vamos, so arrive before 9 pm.

The resort village of Ypsos keeps a real three-day panigiri around its church of Agia Paraskevi: vespers at 8pm on the 25th, liturgy with artoklasia on the 26th and a supplication at 7:30pm, and each night a big open-air dining area behind the church with the Faiakes orchestra playing Corfiot and Greek dance music. Free entry, pay for food and drink; it is on the main coast road so buses from town run late.

One of the season's busiest nights, in several villages at once. The Ikarian formula in full: no stage, no tickets — communal tables of goat in tomato sauce, soufiko and kathoura cheese, barrels of village wine, and live violin-and-lute until dawn.

Faraklata, on the hill road between Argostoli and Sami, throws its panigiri for Agia Paraskevi on the eve, 25 July: vespers, then an orchestra in the square, grilled meat, pies and wine until late. Ten minutes from Argostoli, popular with the town crowd, so the square fills by 10pm.

Pollonia's fishing-village feast: vespers at Agia Paraskevi on the evening of 25 July, then a free musical evening from about 21:30 with island music, organised by the Pollonia cultural and beautification society. Crowds are a mix of locals and visitors staying in the village; book a table at one of the harbour tavernas beforehand, because they fill up on the night.

Kinidaros, the marble-quarry village famous for having the most tavernas per head on Naxos, feasts Agia Paraskevi on the evening of 25 July with grilled meat, wine and raki and violins in the square. The village also celebrates the Holy Cross on 14 September and Agios Nikolaos on 6 December in the same style.
25–27 July
The southernmost village of Rhodes runs a three-day panigiri from 25 to 27 July for both Agia Paraskevi and Agios Panteleimon, with a glendi on the square each night and the Prasonisi kitesurf crowd mixing with the locals. Kattavia also feasts the Panagia on 14 August and holds a 'lopou' (local pulse) festival in late August. It is an hour and a half from Rhodes town, so stay in Gennadi or Lachania rather than driving back.
25–26 July
The Chora feast of high summer: vespers at Agia Paraskevi in Kato Chora on the evening of 25 July, then food and wine from the ktitores and island dancing (syrto) in the lanes until late, with liturgy next morning; a second Agia Paraskevi feast is held at Galani the same night. Chora is car-free — park at the top by the windmills or below at Livadi and take the steps.
25–26 July · Platanias (Agia Paraskevi)
The municipality's main summer panigiri: vespers at 8 pm on 25 July at the chapel of Agia Paraskevi behind Platanias beach, then from about 9 pm a live nisiotika orchestra, dancing and food and drink in the churchyard until late. The 2026 edition was run by the Dimos Skiathou with free entry. It is on the main road to Koukounaries, so take the bus from town rather than fighting for parking.
25–26 July
The pine-fringed bay of Agia Paraskevi on the west coast has a small church of the saint, and on the night of 25-26 July the island's summer panigiri is held there with food, live music and dancing until the early hours. No cars on Spetses: go by the round-the-island boat, a rented scooter or a horse-carriage, and arrange the return in advance.

On 26 July the harbour square of Katapola celebrates the island's honey-and-spice raki: you watch it being made, a boat arrives with dancers in costume, the musicians meet them on the quay, and everyone is handed psimeni raki, pasteli and anevates (raki cheese pies) before the dancing goes on into the small hours. It clashes with the Agia Paraskevi feast the same night, so locals pick one; Katapola is the easier one without a car.
26–27 July
In Kato Katakoilos, the terraced village behind Batsi, the feast of Agios Panteleimon on 26-27 July follows the Andros pattern: church, then greetings from house to house with food and drink offered at each, and dancing. The monastery of Panachrantou above Falika also celebrates the saint with a liturgy the same day.

Chalkida's patron is Agia Paraskevi, whose historic basilica is in the Kastro quarter; her feast on 26 July opens a week-long fair established by royal decree in 1864, with hundreds of stalls, street food and rides, held since 2026 in the Parko tou Laou (26 July-1 August in 2026) after decades in Vourkos. Vespers and a procession on the 25th at the church; the fair is at its liveliest after 9 pm. Park at the municipal pool.
26–27 July
The big feast of Ano Meria, the farming village strung along the ridge west of Chora, for its 'miracle-working' Agios Panteleimon: vespers on the evening of 26 July, then food and wine from the households, violin and laouto and dancing in front of the church, with liturgy on the 27th. It is the island's largest panigiri after Easter; the bus runs late that night, and the matsata (hand-made pasta) tavernas of Ano Meria are the place to eat first.

In the Peza wine country fifteen kilometres from Heraklion, Kounavoi celebrates Agios Panteleimon at its country chapel on the evening of 26 July with a Cretan glenti, local wine from the cooperatives and food from the village association. It is a locals' panigiri that visitors staying in Heraklion can reach by taxi in twenty minutes.

The hamlet named after the saint, just above Agios Kirykos, hosts the feast on the evening of 26 July in the church courtyard, and comes back on 27 August for Agios Fanourios with the Zelepos orchestra. Feidos (Evdilos side) and Myrsonas (Raches) keep Agios Panteleimon the same night. Easy one to reach from town by car or taxi.

Kalymnos' Agios Panteleimon feast is at Panormos (Elies), the green inland village between Pothia and Myrties: vespers and a big service on the 26th evening, then a glendi on the square with food and a local band. Bus from Pothia runs late on the night.

The northernmost village of the Paliki peninsula celebrates Agia Paraskevi on the night of the 26th itself, from 9:30pm in the central square, with the Angelos Andreatos orchestra, 'abundant food, wine and beer' in the municipality's own words, and dancing. The beach of Atheras below is one of the calmest on the island, so make a day of it.

The largest village of the Sitia hinterland celebrates Agia Paraskevi on the evening of 26 July in the Heroes' Park with a full dinner (15 euros in 2025) and a Cretan kompania (the Chariakis brothers in 2025); Ziros repeats the formula on 29 August for its second panigiri. Half an hour from Sitia through the plateau; tables go fast, so arrive by 9 pm.

The hamlet of Alykes Karyoton, just above the lagoon on the way from town to Karya, holds its panigiri for Agios Panteleimon on the evening of 26 July in the churchyard, with a live orchestra, grilled meat and wine from the local association. Parking is on the roadside verges; arrive before 21:00 or expect a walk.

On 26-27 July the chapels of Agios Panteleimon at Marathi, Vorina and by the airport hold their family panigiria in the traditional way: vespers, then food (lamb with lemon, giachni, meatballs) and wine for all comers and dancing to tsambouna. Marathi, inland near Ano Mera, is the easiest to find; ask at Ano Mera which family is hosting.

Both Kostos and Prodromos have a chapel of Agios Panteleimon and hold a village feast for the saint on the evening of 26 July, with food and island music. The municipal tourism page lists this feast under two wrong dates (26 June and 26 August), so treat 26-27 July as the correct one and confirm locally. Prodromos is the easier of the two to reach and has the bigger square.

On the evening of 26 July caiques ferry people from Skala across to the uninhabited islet of Chiliomodi for the vespers at Agios Panteleimon, then food, wine and singing on the shore into the night. Ask at the Skala harbour that afternoon which boats are going and take a jumper.

Kokkari's summer festival on 26 and 27 July, run by the 'Aristarchos' association with the local council: two live orchestras on successive nights (from 20:30 at the central car park by the harbour), local dance groups, free entry, food and drink from stalls. The fishing hamlet at the island's northern tip celebrates Agios Panteleimon on the evening of 26 July at the beachside church of Agios Polykarpos, with chickpea soup and lamb at tables by the water and a takimi playing into the night; a second, smaller feast is held the same night at Agios Charalambos on the road in. The road from Artemonas is long and winding — go early, eat at the taverna, and don't plan on driving back fast.
26–27 July
Sikinos's main summer panigiri, for Agios Panteleimon: service at the chapel, then dinner, wine, live music and dancing in which the whole village and its visitors join — in 2026 it was held at Pantanassa and the main square of Chora and ran on 29 July for practical reasons, so the exact night can shift by a day or two; check sikinos.gr. The island's few rooms fill in late July — book.

The most photogenic Skyrian feast: on 26 July fishing boats ferry everyone from Molos beach to the islet of Agios Ermolaos opposite for the liturgy in the chapel, and then the party moves back to the square at Molos with dancing, singing and plates of seafood. The municipality lists it among the island's traditional panigiria; greeka gives the 25th, so check locally. Boats fill fast, so be on the beach early in the morning.
26–27 July · Trachy / Marmaro
Two chapels of Agios Panteleimon keep the feast on 26-27 July, at Trachy on the road to the airport and at Marmaro in the north. Skyrian panigiria follow the same script: vespers, then the tavles, long tables where pilaf and roast goat or lamb are served to all comers, and violin-and-lute music until morning. Both are reachable only by car; bring a jumper, the north of the island is windy at night.
26–27 July
The little monastery above Nanou beach on the east coast has its feast on 26-27 July with a vespers and a glendi with fish, wine and song. Nanou is reached by boat from Gialos or a long walk; the taxi boats run late on the feast night.

The parish church of Finikas on the south-west coast celebrates Agios Panteleimon on 26-27 July with vespers and a seaside panigiri: food from the association, wine and island music by the marina. The Catholic chapel of the same saint at Papouri in Apano Meria keeps a smaller feast the same evening.
26–28 July · Agios Panteleimon monastery
The island's biggest panigiri — three days at the fortified Agios Panteleimon monastery on the green slopes of Profitis Ilias. Pilgrims come from across the Dodecanese for the liturgy to the island's patron, the healer saint, and the celebration runs on live music, dancing and free food and wine deep into the night. The monastery is about 8km from Megalo Chorio.
27–28 July
The 'Kechagiades' association of Tsimandria, in the flat farming centre of the island, throws its panigiri on the evening of 27 July (eve of Agia Irini Chrysovalantou) on the village five-a-side pitch: live Lemnian band, the association's dance groups, souvlaki, loukoumades and drinks, a raffle, 5 euro entry. Sponsored by the municipality. Tsimandria's 'Enniamera' feast on 23 August was cancelled in 2026, so do not count on that one.
27 July
In the old olive-oil port of Perama on the Gulf of Gera, Agios Panteleimon (27 July) is celebrated with the 'Stylos': a greased log is fixed over the water on the pier with a flag at the end, and young men try to walk out and grab it while the crowd cheers from the quay. Feast and music follow. Agios Panteleimon is also kept the same weekend at Skala Eresou (Portos), Apothika, Megali Tsichranta and Plomari.
28 July
The day after the monastery feast, on 28 July, the villagers of Megalo Chorio dance the 'koupa' in the courtyard of the Taxiarchis church: the old Tilos custom where the lead dancer holds a cup and the roles of the feast pass from one household to the next for the coming year. Come in the evening; it is followed by food and music.
29–31 July
The biggest country fair on Rhodes: a two-week run of events in the pine woods around the Agios Soulas hermitage above Soroni, peaking on 28-30 July with donkey and horse races on the little hippodrome, a contest for the best traditional reed hut (kalyva), souvlaki stalls and dancing to local bands. People come from every village on the island, so arrive before sunset on the 29th to park anywhere near the site.
31 July · Psara
At midnight on 31 July the young people of Psara walk three hours up to the monastery of the Dormition in the north of the island and carry the icon back down to the village at dawn, where it stays until the feast. A moving, entirely local custom; join the walk with a torch and good shoes, or wait at the harbour for the arrival.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
