15 March
On Clean Monday the village of Othos stages a mock 'court' with masqueraders (the mousoutades) trying and sentencing villagers for the year's misdeeds, followed by traditional dances. It is the best-known carnival custom on Karpathos, and the only reason many islanders come home in winter. Dress warmly; Othos is at 500 m.
24–25 March
The island capital's own feast, on Annunciation day: liturgy and procession at Evangelistria in Pigadia, then a town-wide glendi. Olympos marks the same day. A good reason to be on Karpathos out of season, and the ferries run.
July through August (varies)
Three-day traditional weddings in Olympos still happen in the original form — costumes, music, lyra. If you're in Karpathos and a wedding is happening, all visitors welcome.
16–17 July
Menetes, the amphitheatre village above Pigadia, feasts Agia Marina on 16-17 July with a glendi of Karpathian music and free food after the vespers. The same village runs the Agios Ioannis feast at Afiarti on 29 August. Ten minutes from Pigadia; there is a small folklore museum worth seeing while you are there.
5–6 August
Othos, the highest village on Karpathos, and neighbouring Aperi both celebrate the Transfiguration on 5-6 August with vespers, communal food and dancing to lyra. Go up on the evening of the 5th; the two villages are five minutes apart, so you can do both.
14–16 August

28–29 August · Olympos / Vrykounta
On 28-29 August the people of Olympos walk down to the underground church of Agios Ioannis at Vrykounta, an ancient site on the far north coast: park at Avlona and walk about 90 minutes down the old path, carrying a sleeping bag because everyone spends the night on the stone terraces around the church. Braised goat, chickpea soup and loukoumades are served at long tables, and the mantinades and dancing to lyra go on until dawn. Pack water and a torch; there is only a small canteen.
7–8 September
Mesochori, a car-free village of stepped lanes on the west coast, celebrates the Nativity of the Virgin at Panagia Mesochoritissa, the church built over the village spring, with vespers on the 7th and a feast with lyra and laouto on the square. Volada also feasts on 8 September. Park at the top of the village and walk down.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
