Keion Gefseis food festival, Ioulida

1 May

A new municipal food night (2nd edition 1 May 2026) that turns Ioulida into a tasting walk: stations at the Piazza, the main uphill street, Skaki and the square, where local producers and tavernas hand out samples of Kea specialities — paspalas, loza, thyme honey, the local cheeses — with a chef's menu inspired by Kea recipes, a sweets workshop by the women's association and dance groups to finish. Free; Ioulida is car-free, so park at the entrance and walk.

'To the rhythm of Xotari' traditional dance festival, Kato Meria

third weekend of June, 3 days (20–22 Jun 2025)

A weekend of traditional dance in Kato Meria organised by the Kardia beautification society: dance groups from Kea and other islands perform in the evenings, with workshops and a glenti after. Held 20–22 June in 2025; the date floats around the third weekend of June, so check kea.gr's summer programme.

Panigiri

Pentecost panigiri, Ioulida

19–20 June

The municipality's 'traditional Agiou Pnevmatos panigiri' in Ioulida on the evening of Pentecost Sunday from 21:00 — an island glenti in the main square with live violin and laouto and Tziotiko dancing, the first big night of the Kea summer. It coincides with the three-day Pentecost weekend when Athenians pour onto the island, so book the Lavrio ferry and your room well ahead.

Klidonas custom, Otzias

23–24 June

On the evening of 23 June the Otzias beautification society and the women's association revive the Klidonas at the beach village of Otzias, from 20:00: the 'silent water', the reading of fortunes from the pot, bonfires that people jump over, and music and dancing afterwards. It's a family-oriented evening rather than a big panigiri; there is easy parking along the bay.

Kea Storytelling Festival (Giorti Paramythion)

second half of July, about 10 days (17–26 Jul 2026) · Ioulida and villages island-wide

Running since the early 2000s, the Centre for the Study of Myths and Fairytales brings Greek and international storytellers to Kea for ten evenings of tales in remarkable settings — the ancient theatre at Karthaia, the spring at Ellinika, the Otzias waterfront, the quarry at Orkos, the Ioulida theatre. Performances are free and mostly in Greek (some in English); the 24th edition was 17–26 July 2026. Some venues are reached on foot along the old paths, so check the programme for walking times.

Panigiri

Otzias festival (Agia Marina), Otzias

17 July

The 'Giorti tou Otzia', co-organised by the municipality and the local society on 17 July (Agia Marina's day) from 20:00 on the waterfront: food from the village associations, live island music and dancing by the sea. The bay's tavernas are the fallback for dinner if the queues get long; it's a 15-minute drive from Korissia.

Panigiri

Panigiri of the Transfiguration, Poisses

6 August

The west-coast valley of Poisses celebrates its Sotiras church on 6 August from 20:00, organised by the municipality and the Poisses society 'Agios Isidoros': liturgy, then food, wine and live island music by the beach. It's a long drive from the port on the west-coast road — allow 30 minutes and don't rush back in the dark.

Panigiri

Tziotiko panigiri of the Dormition, Ioulida

15 August

Kea's big night: on 15 August from 21:00 the municipality throws the 'Traditional Tziotiko Panigiri' in the main square of Ioulida, with a full island orchestra, communal tables and dancing that goes on until the small hours. The next evening (16 Aug, 20:00) the party moves to Kato Meria for the 'Glenti Kato Merias' organised with the Karthaia society. Ioulida is on foot only — expect a long walk from wherever you find parking.

Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
