Panigiri

Panigiri of Zoodochos Pigi monastery, Chora

6–7 May · Chora (Kastro)

The fortified 17th-century monastery above Kastro celebrates on Bright Friday, the first Friday after Easter: on the eve the sponsoring family lays on a communal meal at the monastery for the whole village, and in return keeps the icon in their house for the year. It's the island's spring feast and, with the Easter week, the best reason to come to Sikinos out of season; climb the steps from Kastro before dusk.

Profitis Ilias feast, Sikinos chapel

19–20 July · Profitis Ilias chapel (countryside)

The municipality organises a proper panigiri at the hill chapel of Profitis Ilias on 20 July, with musicians, food and dancing for locals and visitors together — the mayor's own posts confirm it as an annual fixture. The chapel is reached on foot from the Chora–Episkopi road; take water and a torch for the way down.

Panigiri of Agios Panteleimon, Chora

26–27 July

Sikinos's main summer panigiri, for Agios Panteleimon: service at the chapel, then dinner, wine, live music and dancing in which the whole village and its visitors join — in 2026 it was held at Pantanassa and the main square of Chora and ran on 29 July for practical reasons, so the exact night can shift by a day or two; check sikinos.gr. The island's few rooms fill in late July — book.

Panagia Pantanassa

15 August

The big island festival at the church above Chora. Music until dawn — entirely local, almost no tourists.

Panigiri of Stavros, Chora

13–14 September

For the Exaltation of the Cross the sponsoring family gives an evening meal for the village on 13 September and, as with every Sikinos feast, takes the icon home for a year. It's a quiet, entirely local evening at the end of the season — the sort of thing you stumble on rather than plan around, but worth knowing if you're on the island in mid-September.

Eisodia tis Theotokou fish-soup feast, Chora

21 November

On 21 November the village gathers in the square of Chora for a meal of psarosoupa (fish soup) offered by the year's sponsor, who keeps the icon at home until the next feast. A winter tradition for the few hundred residents rather than a tourist event, but a genuine one; ferries in November are sparse, so it's for those already on the island.

Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar. If you know better, the feedback button exists for exactly this.
