22–23 April
Pyli celebrates Agios Georgios with the island's traditional horse races: after the liturgy, riders from the village race bareback on the plain below Pyli, then there is a glendi with food and music on the square. If 23 April falls in Lent it moves to Easter Monday. Asfendiou has its own Agios Georgios the same day, with mezedes in the little forest.
29–30 June
Antimachia, the big windmill village in the middle of the island, has its patronal feast for the Holy Apostles on 29-30 June, with vespers and a glendi with local music and food on the square. The same village feasts the Panagia on 15 August and runs the honey festival in August.
July through August
Annual cultural festival named after the island's most famous son. Open-air concerts, theatre, the symbolic re-reading of the Hippocratic Oath at the Asklepieion archaeological site. Major draws are the dance performances and ancient drama productions in atmospheric settings.
a weekend in the second half of August
Held by the 'Proodos' cultural association at the restored windmill of Antimachia, as part of the Hippokrateia programme (23 August in 2026): local honey and honey sweets to taste, beekeepers' stalls, traditional music and a concert to finish. Free; go around 8 pm to catch the light on the mill.
14–15 August
The biggest village panigiri on Kos: the shepherds of Kefalos, the old capital at the far west, cook boiled goat with pilaf in huge cauldrons and serve it free after the liturgy on the 15th, with dancing to island music on the square the night before and after. Kefalos also runs a fish festival in the first half of August. Parking in the village is tight; use the road below and walk up.
28–29 August
Mastichari, the ferry port for Kalymnos, feasts the Beheading of St John on the evening of 28 August with live music and dancing by the harbour. It also holds a wine festival in the first week of August.
7–8 September
Kardamena's parish feast on 7-8 September is the one night the resort belongs to the locals: vespers at the Panagia church, then a glendi with island music on the square. In early October the same village holds its smelt (marida) festival with free fried fish by the harbour.
25–26 October
The autumn feast of the mountain villages of Asfendiou (Zia, Lagoudi, Evangelistria) is Agios Dimitrios on 25-26 October, with a vespers and a glendi with local food. A good excuse for the Zia sunset without the coach parties.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
