2–3 May
Kalymnos does Easter louder than anywhere in Greece. Rival groups, each 'owning' one of the two mountains above Pothia, hurl homemade dynamite sticks across the harbour all through the Resurrection liturgy — a deafening barrage that rattles windows in the town below. A sponge-diver's tradition rooted in the island's resistance streak. Watch from a distance: this is genuinely loud and genuinely explosive.
23–24 June · Pothia and beaches
On the evening of 23 June small bonfires are lit on the beaches and along the harbours of Kalymnos and children and teenagers jump over them for the Klidonas, the midsummer custom of Agios Ioannis. Nothing organised, just wander the Pothia waterfront or Myrties beach after dark.
26–27 July
Kalymnos' Agios Panteleimon feast is at Panormos (Elies), the green inland village between Pothia and Myrties: vespers and a big service on the 26th evening, then a glendi on the square with food and a local band. Bus from Pothia runs late on the night.
14–15 August
The alternative 15 August on Kalymnos, for the Masouri/Arginonta side of the island: the chapel of Panagia Galatiani in the Arginonta valley has a vigil and then a glendi with local musicians, an easier option than the climb to Kyra Psili and popular with the climbing crowd staying in Masouri. Ten minutes from Masouri by scooter.
14–15 August
The island's main Dormition feast is at the cliff monastery of Kyra Psili above the Vathy valley: pilgrims walk up in the evening of the 14th with mats and blankets, the vigil starts around 9-10 pm, and afterwards there is tsambouna-and-laouto music, dancing and food stalls until morning. Wear proper shoes for the path and bring water; cars stop well below the monastery.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
