Niptiras (Holy Thursday foot-washing)

Open-air ceremony in Chora's main square: the abbot of the Monastery of Saint John ritually washes the feet of 12 monks, reenacting Christ washing the disciples' feet. One of the few places in the Orthodox world where the rite is still performed publicly.

Panigiri of Agios Panteleimon, Chiliomodi islet
26–27 July
On the evening of 26 July caiques ferry people from Skala across to the uninhabited islet of Chiliomodi for the vespers at Agios Panteleimon, then food, wine and singing on the shore into the night. Ask at the Skala harbour that afternoon which boats are going and take a jumper.

Panigiri of Christos (Transfiguration), Kampos
5–6 August
The church of Christos in Kato Kampos celebrates the Transfiguration with a vespers on the 5th and a panigiri with music and dance run by the Kampos cultural association 'Evangelistria', spilling into the tavernas on Kampos beach. Easy: it is the island's main beach village.

Panigiri of Panagia Geranou
14–15 August · Geranou (north Patmos)
The largest panigiri on Patmos, at the old double chapel on the hilltop of Geranou, north of Kampos, with a view over the strait: after the vespers on the 14th thousands crowd the courtyard for food and wine and a traditional orchestra keeps the dancing going until dawn. Go by bus or scooter and expect to walk the last stretch; cars queue on the narrow road.

Panigiri of Agia Thekla, Agriolivado
23–24 September
The last panigiri of the Patmos summer: on the evening of 23 September boats cross from Agriolivado to the little chapel of Agia Thekla on the islet opposite for vespers, treats, and then food and song on the beach. Small and very local.

25–26 September
Feast of the patron saint at the Monastery of Saint John. Pilgrimage and procession.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
