around 21-22 July, 2 nights
Two evenings of mandolin music, the instrument of old Halki, on the steps of Agios Nikolaos and on the harbour (21-22 July in 2026), with Cretan and Dodecanese players. Informal; bring a chair or grab a taverna table on the front.
14–15 August
Halki's Dormition is a two-part affair: liturgy on the 15th at the restored church of Panagia Choriatis up in the old village of Chorio, and on the evening of the 14th and 15th a glendi with Dodecanese musicians on the Nimborio harbour front. Everything is a five-minute walk in Nimborio; the Chorio church is a 3 km walk or taxi ride uphill.
28–29 August · Agios Ioannis Alarga monastery
The monastery of Agios Ioannis 'Alarga' (far away) sits at the end of the road across the island from Nimborio, and on 28-29 August the whole of Halki plus its Rhodes and Florida diaspora drives, walks or rides out for the vespers, a traditional feast in the monastery courtyard and lyra-and-laouto music until late, then a procession back in the harbour. The municipality runs a shuttle; go on the 28th evening.
second week of September, 5 days · Nimborio
A small classical festival held in Nimborio in early-mid September (8-12 September in 2026) with the Athens State Orchestra and guest soloists playing on the harbour and in the churches. Free, and the island is at its quietest; the July mandolin nights are a warm-up to it.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
