Free three-day music festival on the beach and in the village since 2011, with stages in front of the hippie caves, on the square and by the bridge; Greek pop-rock headliners, tribute bands and DJ parties, plus street-painting, yoga and kids' activities. Dates move: 4–6 July 2025, 19–21 June 2026. The village is overwhelmed, so stay in Pitsidia or Kalamaki, or book Matala Camping months ahead.

Annual reenactment of Admiral Miaoulis's 1822 victory against the Ottoman fleet. Fireboat burned in the harbour, naval parade, fireworks. The most spectacular event in the Saronic.

The resort village of Armenistis opens its season with a panigiri on a Friday in early or mid June (6 June in 2025, 13 June in 2026), the first of the summer for the west coast. Goat, wine and an Ikarian band on the harbour front, with the beaches of Livadi and Messakti empty enough to swim off the hangover. Date is set each spring by the village, so check ikariaki.gr.

A weekend of traditional dance in Kato Meria organised by the Kardia beautification society: dance groups from Kea and other islands perform in the evenings, with workshops and a glenti after. Held 20–22 June in 2025; the date floats around the third weekend of June, so check kea.gr's summer programme.

A small open-air short-film festival started by the volunteer group 'Kimolistes' and now backed by the municipality, screened at the outdoor cinema Kalisperitis in Chorio over roughly five nights in late June (25–30 June in recent listings). Screenings are free and start after dark; it's a pleasant excuse for a June visit when the island is empty and the water already warm.
last Saturday of June · Pano Koufonisi (Chora)
On the last Saturday of June the fishermen of Koufonisi, one of the biggest fishing fleets per head in Greece, cook their catch on the harbour square and hand out fresh fish, fish soup, meze and drinks free, with traditional music and dancing; the shops close for the night. Get there by 21:00 and bring cash for the tavernas afterwards.

Tiny Psara remembers the 1824 Ottoman destruction that wiped out one of the revolution's great naval islands — the last defenders blew up their own powder magazine at Mavri Rachi rather than surrender. The last Sunday of June brings a memorial service, wreaths and cultural events. Solomos's poem about the 'black ridge of Psara' is part of every Greek's schooling.

The cultural association of Mytilinioi revives the Klidonas custom in the village square on the Saturday around St John's day: 'silent water', fortune-telling rhymes, burning the May Day wreaths, a traditional orchestra and a tsampouna (bagpipe) dance teacher, from 19:30. Tables are reserved in advance, so call the association. The same association runs the big Exaltation of the Cross panigiri here on 13 September (evening) with the village's own musicians.

Not an official festival but a phenomenon: Skopelos hosts a steady stream of Mamma Mia! pilgrimages to Agios Ioannis chapel (the wedding scene). Local tavernas screen the films, host themed nights, and run weekly tribute events through summer. The tourism economy runs on it.

Myrsini, a small village in the middle of Tinos, revives the Ai-Giannis Fotaras custom: bonfires in the square, jumping over the flames, then a glenti with violin and laouto (Karamanis and Theologitis in 2026), free entry and food and drink sold by the village association. It is moved to the nearest Saturday, so check the Tinos Today panigiria list each June.

Memorial of the 1824 destruction of the island by Egyptian-Ottoman forces. Solemn, not festive — but historically the most important date in the Kasos calendar.
9–10 June · Chrysopigi (near Platys Gialos)
Sifnos's biggest festival, at the cliff-top monastery. The icon is paraded; tavernas serve free chickpea stew and lamb to all comers.
19–20 June
The municipality's 'traditional Agiou Pnevmatos panigiri' in Ioulida on the evening of Pentecost Sunday from 21:00 — an island glenti in the main square with live violin and laouto and Tziotiko dancing, the first big night of the Kea summer. It coincides with the three-day Pentecost weekend when Athenians pour onto the island, so book the Lavrio ferry and your room well ahead.

The early-season panigiri on the Agios Kirykos side: on Pentecost Sunday the tiny settlement of Negia (Kionio) near Agios Kirykos keeps Agia Triada with a traditional Ikarian feast after the liturgy. Negia also has a small panigiri for Prophet Zechariah on 5 September. Kastanies (Tragostasi) in Raches keeps Agiou Pnevmatos the following day.
20–21 June · Chora (Messaria)
One of the two feasts Kythnos itself names as its most important: Agia Triada in Chora, on the eve and day of Agiou Pnevmatos (Whit Monday). The pattern is the island's classic — vespers, then an all-night glenti with local violin and laouto players and the Kythnian 'balos' dance in the square, continuing after the morning liturgy. Chora is a 10-minute drive from Merichas; the square fills, so come at dusk.

The first big panigiri of the Sitia summer: on Pentecost Sunday evening the Palaikastro association sets tables in the schoolyard with a full menu (about 18 euros in 2025) and top Cretan musicians (Antonis and Nikos Xylouris in 2025). Palaikastro is the base for Vai and Kouremenos beaches, so it fits a June stay; book a table through the association.

In Agia Paraskevi village, an ancient and unusual ritual: a bull is paraded, blessed, then ritually slaughtered and shared communally. Pre-Christian roots, controversial in modern times, but among Greece's most extraordinary surviving folk traditions.

The port town's big feast: vespers at Agia Triada on Pentecost Sunday evening, a procession of the icon along the Adamas waterfront, then from about 21:30 an island glenti with live violin and lute, dancing by the local KAPI dance group and food on the church forecourt; liturgy follows on Whit Monday morning. It's a short walk from any hotel in Adamas, so no car needed — just arrive by 21:00 for a seat.

Filoti's early-summer feast at the church of Agia Triada, on Holy Spirit Monday: violins and laouta in the square, food and wine and dancing until the early hours. A quieter preview of what the village does on 15 August.

The island's patron saint is celebrated in Mandraki on 20-21 June with a procession of the icon through the village and a glendi. It opens the summer season of panigiria on Nisyros.
21 June · Ammos, Othonoi
The Monday after Pentecost is the day the Corfu festival calendars give for Othonoi, the westernmost point of Greece: liturgy, then a village meal and music by the harbour at Ammos for the islanders and the first summer visitors. The ferry from Agios Stefanos (Corfu) is the only way; it runs a few times a week in June, so plan to stay a night.

On 23 June from about 20:30 the municipality and the Chora associations light the Klidonas fire in the Loza square, with the fortune-telling custom, traditional music and dancing. A short, friendly evening and the opening of Amorgos's summer.

On the evening of 23 June the May wreaths from the doorways are collected and burned on the waterfront, children jump the fires and the local dance group performs the Klidonas custom, with kerasmata and music afterwards. Small and genuinely local; it is over by midnight.

On 23 June the Elymnians light the St John's bonfire on the harbour of Limni and revive the klidonas: girls' tokens drawn from a jug of 'silent water', couplets, jumping the flames, then music on the quay. It is in the municipal summer programme every year and free; the seafront tavernas are the place to sit and watch.

The Peza wine village revives the St John's Eve custom properly: on the afternoon of 23 June the May wreaths are burned and people jump the bonfire three times, the 'silent water' is fetched and the girls' fortunes read, then Cretan music in the square with free entry (Kakoudakis and Petsakis in 2025). Houdetsi is 20 km south of Heraklion; the Erotokritos cultural workshop organises it.
23–24 June · Pyrgos (Agios Ioannis monastery)
On the evening of 23 June Ios climbs to the little monastery of Agios Ioannis at Pyrgos, on the summit above Chora, for the Klidonas: vespers, then bonfires, meze and wine from the association and violins until late, with the whole island laid out beneath you. Take the dirt road by car and walk the last stretch, or hike up from Chora before dusk.
23–24 June · Pothia and beaches
On the evening of 23 June small bonfires are lit on the beaches and along the harbours of Kalymnos and children and teenagers jump over them for the Klidonas, the midsummer custom of Agios Ioannis. Nothing organised, just wander the Pothia waterfront or Myrties beach after dark.

On the evening of 23 June the Otzias beautification society and the women's association revive the Klidonas at the beach village of Otzias, from 20:00: the 'silent water', the reading of fortunes from the pot, bonfires that people jump over, and music and dancing afterwards. It's a family-oriented evening rather than a big panigiri; there is easy parking along the bay.

On the eve of St John's day the Sfakiotes village of Pinakochori lights big bonfires ('lamparda') of last year's dried oregano in the old school yard after evening service, and everyone jumps over the flames three times for luck, then there is music and dancing. It is the only Sfakiotes village that kept the custom; organised by the Sfakiotes cultural centre since 1990, low-key and very local.
23–24 June
On the evening of 23 June the harbour of Naoussa (and, smaller, Aliki and Prodromos) lights the Klidonas bonfires: the dried May wreaths go on the fire, kids and the local dance group jump over it, and the cultural association hands out meze and wine with violin and laouto. It is a short, early-summer event rather than an all-nighter, so turn up around 21:00 and stay for the dancing on the quay.

On the night of 23 June the neighbourhoods of Poros town light St John's fires and jump them, with mezes, music and dancing in the lanes below the clock tower. Informal and free; the seafront is the place to see the fires from.

On the evening of 23 June the old neighbourhoods of the Chora (Plakes, Agios Nikolaos, around the church of Ai-Giannis) light bonfires, burn the May Day wreaths and children jump the flames three times for luck. There is violin-and-lute music, teasing couplets, oregano (the saint is 'Riganas' here) and wine poured for anyone standing nearby. It is a neighbourhood custom, not a ticketed event, so just walk up from the old port after 9 pm and follow the smoke.
23–24 June · Kampos (Skopelos Town)
The small women's monastery of Prodromos a few km from the Chora keeps an all-night vigil on the eve of 24 June and offers food to those who stay, in the Athonite manner the island's monasteries follow. The same dependency's chapel of Agios Ioannis sto Kampo (not the Mamma Mia rock chapel at Kastri) holds vespers on 28 August and liturgy on the 29th for the Beheading. Quiet, candle-lit and worth it if you are on the island anyway; take a car, there is no bus.

The village of Chroussa in the south of Syros revives the Klidonas on the night of 23-24 June at the old Faneromeni primary school: the May wreaths are burned, kids jump the fire, and the association serves meze and wine with live music. Small and local; 20 minutes by car from Ermoupoli.

On the eve of St John (23 June) Limenas park hosts the 'Fires of Ai-Giannis': the Klidonas divination custom, choir, jumping the bonfire and halva handed round. Skala Marion on the west coast keeps the same feast on 23-24 June with an icon procession and a village celebration. First real village events of the Thasos summer.

Folk Saint John's Eve tradition still alive on Milos: at sunset, unmarried girls collect water from a well in silence and predict their future husbands through tokens placed in it overnight. Bonfires are jumped on the 24th. Smaller and more intimate than the better-known Cretan version.
26–27 June · Agioi Pantes (above Agia Marina)
The women's monastery of Agioi Pantes, 1.5 km up a cypress avenue from Agios Eleftherios with a view over Agia Marina bay, keeps All Saints Sunday (the Sunday after Pentecost) with a vigil and a liturgy, after which the nuns serve coffee and sweets in the courtyard. Early June, before the crowds; walk up in the morning.
28–29 June
The feast of the Metropolitan church of Peter and Paul in Dryopida is the village's biggest night and an official municipal event: hierarchical vespers at 19:30 on 28 June, then from 21:00 a traditional glenti with violins in the square with the Dryopida Cultural Society's dance groups, and liturgy at 07:30 on the 29th. Dryopida's tiled-roof lanes are pedestrian; traffic is closed on the approach road, so park at the edge of the village and walk in.

Katomeri's parish church is dedicated to Peter and Paul and its feast on 29 June is the first panigiri of the Meganisi summer: vespers on the 28th, liturgy and then food and music in the village square. Small island, small crowd, mostly locals and yacht crews from Vathy and Spartochori.

The Corfu-region festival calendars list Gaios among the places keeping Peter and Paul on 29 June, with vespers on the 28th and a village evening with music and food on the square; Paxos also joins Corfu in the Panagia Vlachernon celebrations on 2 July. Small and local; ask at the port kiosk which square the music is in.

The first big feast of the Serifos summer, at the chapel of Peter and Paul by the beach of Platys Gialos in the north: vespers on the evening of 28 June, a communal meal put on by the ktitores (the families who keep the church) — fava, goat with pasta, local wine — then liturgy and more food next morning. The road from Chora is partly unpaved and the bay has no lighting, so drive carefully and bring a torch.
29–30 June
Pezi is the high, wind-blown plateau village above Raches, and its Agioi Apostoloi feast on the evening of 29 June is the first proper panigiri of the summer in the west of the island. Goat, local wine and a violin-and-laouto orchestra in the square; bring a jacket, it is cold up there even in June. Nearby Agios Isidoros (Pezi) has its own small feast on 14 May.
29–30 June
Antimachia, the big windmill village in the middle of the island, has its patronal feast for the Holy Apostles on 29-30 June, with vespers and a glendi with local music and food on the square. The same village feasts the Panagia on 15 August and runs the honey festival in August.

Melanes, the village of the kouroi near Chora, celebrates the Holy Apostles on the evening of 29 June with a panigiri in the square: local meat dishes, wine and violin-and-laouto dancing. One of the first big feasts of the Naxos summer and an easy 15-minute drive from town.

The blue-domed church above Skala beach is Agioi Anargyroi, and its feast on 1 July (vespers on the 30th) is the main panigiri of the port village, with food and music by the church after the service. Agistri is 20 minutes from Aegina by boat, so it is easy to combine with a day on the beach.

Tholaria above Aegiali celebrates its parish saints on 30 June-1 July: great vespers on the eve, liturgy and procession of the icons on the day, and both evenings the whole village eats patatato (goat with potatoes) and xydato (sour meat soup) in the square and dances to violin and laouto. Vegetarian dishes replace the meat if the feast falls on a fasting day. Stay in Aegiali and walk or take the shuttle up.
30 June – 1 July
Karavostamo, the big seaside village between Evdilos and Agios Kirykos, opens its summer with Agioi Anargyroi on the evening of 30 June; the same village does Agia Paraskevi (25 July) and the huge 15 August feast, so it is the busiest panigiri village on the north coast. Food is served at long tables by the cultural association, music is Ikarian violin. Therma on the south coast celebrates the same saints the same night.
30 June
The first panigiri of the Ithacan summer, on the little harbour of Frikes for Peter and Paul: liturgy, then tables on the quay with grilled meat, local wine and a live band until morning. Half the crowd comes off the yachts moored a few metres away, so it is more cosmopolitan than most; the municipality lists it for 30 June, and Frikes also throws a second summer party around 10 August.
30 June – 1 July
Kythnos has four Agioi Anargyroi chapels celebrating on 1 July, but the memorable one is at Dryopida, where the chapel sits at the mouth of the Katafyki cave that villagers once used as a refuge. Vespers on the evening of 30 June is followed by a glenti with violin and laouto; it comes two days after the Apostoloi feast, so a late-June stay in Dryopida catches both.
30 June – 1 July
The seaside parish of Agios Nikolaos in Selinia, on the east coast facing Piraeus, keeps the feast of its icon of Panagia Therapevousa (the Healer) on 30 June-1 July: vespers with artoklasia at 7 pm on the eve, liturgy at 7 am and a procession of the icon along the waterfront. The same church holds a relic of St Nicholas and celebrates again on 5-6 December.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
