Panigiri

Panigiri of Agioi Apostoloi, Platys Gialos

28–29 June

The first big feast of the Serifos summer, at the chapel of Peter and Paul by the beach of Platys Gialos in the north: vespers on the evening of 28 June, a communal meal put on by the ktitores (the families who keep the church) — fava, goat with pasta, local wine — then liturgy and more food next morning. The road from Chora is partly unpaved and the bay has no lighting, so drive carefully and bring a torch.

Panigiri of Profitis Ilias, Vounia

19–20 July

Profitis Ilias is celebrated at the chapels of Vounia and Xero Chorio in the island's interior on the evening of 19 July, with the classic Serifos panigiri table — fava with olives and onion, boiled goat with potatoes, pasta with goat stew — and wine that doesn't stop. Some years there's a live violin; ask in Chora. These are hamlet feasts with no facilities, so eat what's offered and bring water.

Panigiri

Panigiri of Agia Paraskevi, Kato Chora

25–26 July

The Chora feast of high summer: vespers at Agia Paraskevi in Kato Chora on the evening of 25 July, then food and wine from the ktitores and island dancing (syrto) in the lanes until late, with liturgy next morning; a second Agia Paraskevi feast is held at Galani the same night. Chora is car-free — park at the top by the windmills or below at Livadi and take the steps.

Panigiri

Panigiri of Sotiras (Transfiguration), Pyrgos and Kalo Ampeli

5–6 August

The Transfiguration is kept at the village of Pyrgos and at the chapel of Sotiras above Kalo Ampeli beach, with vespers on the evening of 5 August, the ktitores' table of fava and goat, and liturgy on the 6th. Pyrgos is the more accessible of the two and has the village-square glenti; Kalo Ampeli is a walk-in beach chapel and very quiet.

Dormition panigiria of Serifos (Ramos, Skopoi, Pyrgos, Liomantra)

14–16 August · Ramos / Pyrgos

Serifos spreads Dekapentavgoustos over several nights: on the eve (14 Aug) the Panagia chapels at Ramos and Skopoi (Skopiani) and the Evangelistria in Kato Chora celebrate, on the 15th–16th the feast moves to Pyrgos and Panagia at Liomantra (Sklavogianni), and the nine-day (Enniamera) feasts at Kamaroti, Maskailia and Pente Pigadia run on 20–23 August. Local sources also refer to a three-day 'Xylopanagia' feast at the village of Panagia; treat that as the 15–16 August cluster. Each is a ktitores' table of fava, goat and wine with dancing — pick one per night and ask in Livadi which has music.

Panigiri

Panigiri of Agios Sostis, Agios Sostis beach

6–7 September · Agios Sostis (Livadi)

A beach chapel feast on the little isthmus of Agios Sostis, a short drive or a 40-minute walk from Livadi: vespers on the evening of 6 September, fava and goat from the ktitores and wine on the sand, liturgy at dawn on the 7th. September water is at its warmest, so people swim before and after. Parking is a handful of spaces on the track — walk if you can.

Panigiri

Feast of the Taxiarches, Moni Taxiarchon (Galani)

7–8 November

The island's patron feast at the fortified 16th-century Taxiarches monastery near Galani, in the north: vespers on 7 November and liturgy on the 8th, with a communal meal for everyone who makes the trip and Serifiots returning from Athens. It is the one off-season event worth planning a visit around — but check ferry schedules, as November crossings are few and weather-dependent.

Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar. If you know better, the feedback button exists for exactly this.
