20–21 June
The island's patron saint is celebrated in Mandraki on 20-21 June with a procession of the icon through the village and a glendi. It opens the summer season of panigiria on Nisyros.
14–15 August
Pilgrimage to the cave-monastery above Mandraki. Major island festival; processions and an all-night panigiri.
22–23 August · Panagia Kyra monastery
The 'ninth day' of the Dormition on 22-23 August is kept at the monastery of Panagia Kyra, in the countryside between Mandraki and Loutra: after vespers huge tables are laid in the monastery courtyard for everyone, with music until late. Quieter than Spiliani and more of a locals' feast.
25–26 September
The monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos just below Nikia, the village on the crater rim, has its feast on 25-26 September: vespers, food in the courtyard and dancing to violin and laouto. Late season, so a good excuse to see the volcano with few people around.
7–8 November
Emporios, the half-abandoned village on the crater rim, comes alive on 7-8 November for the Archangel Michael with a vespers and a feast in the little square, and again on 8 September for the Nativity of the Virgin. A winter feast for those who love the island empty.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
