Kimolos International Film Festival (KIFF), Chorio

late June, about 5 days

A small open-air short-film festival started by the volunteer group 'Kimolistes' and now backed by the municipality, screened at the outdoor cinema Kalisperitis in Chorio over roughly five nights in late June (25–30 June in recent listings). Screenings are free and start after dark; it's a pleasant excuse for a June visit when the island is empty and the water already warm.

Ladenia Festival, Chorio

late August (Saturday), one evening

The municipality's celebration of ladenia, the island's olive-oil flatbread with tomato and onion: from 21:00 in the schoolyard in Chorio, hand-made ladenies and tyrenies (cheese pies) and local cheeses are handed out free with wine, and a live island band keeps people dancing until morning. Held on a Saturday in late August (29 Aug in 2026); some listings put it 'around 15 August', so confirm on kimolos.gr before you plan around it.

Panigiriconfirm locally

Dormition panigiri, Chorio

14–15 August

Kimolos keeps Dekapentavgoustos simply: vespers on the 14th, liturgy and a procession of the icon through the lanes of Chorio on the 15th, and a traditional glenti with violin and laouto in the village. It coincides with the peak of the summer 'Cultural August' events run by the Athens-based Kimolian associations, so the island is at its fullest — the Milos–Kimolos ferry from Pollonia gets very busy those days.

Feast of Osia Methodia, Chorio

4–5 October

Kimolos's own saint, Osia Methodia (1861–1908), is honoured at the Panagia Odigitria church where her relics rest: vespers on 4 October, liturgy and a procession of the relics on the 5th, then a glenti with live folk music laid on by the residents and the municipality. It is an off-season feast, so ferries are thin — come from Milos by the Pollonia boat and stay the night.

Panigiri

Feast of Panagia Odigitria, Chorio

20–21 November

The patroness of Kimolos, Panagia Odigitria, is celebrated at the big 1867 church in Chorio on the Presentation of the Virgin: vespers on 20 November, a bishop's liturgy and procession of the icon on the 21st, and a traditional glenti afterwards. It's the island's most important religious day, attended by Kimolians who come back from Athens for it; expect a cold wind and very few tavernas open.

Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar. If you know better, the feedback button exists for exactly this.
