Panigiri of Panagia tou Charou

22–24 August · Lipsi village

The feast Leipsoi is known for, on the ninth day of the Dormition: the icon of Panagia tou Charou (the Virgin holding the crucified Christ) is famous for the dried lilies placed on it on 25 March that bud again in August. On 22 August at 6 pm the icon is carried in procession from the cathedral with the band and the whole island, and the municipality hands out grapes, sweets, mastic-and-anise bread and local meat over three days of music. Boats come from Patmos, Leros and Kos; book the ferry back before you go.

Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar. If you know better, the feedback button exists for exactly this.
