Kimolos is what Milos was twenty years ago — literally next door, a 30-minute ferry from Pollonia, and two decades behind in development. That's the whole comparison, and it cuts both ways.
Milos (4.7) is the event: Sarakiniko, Kleftiko, the boat trip, seventy beaches, restaurants that book out, an airport, and now the crowds and prices (2.8 affordability) that come with fame. Kimolos (3.6) is the escape hatch: Prassa's white sand and turquoise shallows, the skeleton of its medieval Kastro village, goats on the road, a handful of tavernas where the owner cooks. Its beaches score 4.5 — barely behind Milos — but you'll often have them to yourself. The trade: fewer rooms, fewer ferries, nothing to 'do' after dinner (2.5 nightlife).
Choose Milos for the full spectacle — first visit, photography, boat day. Choose Kimolos if you've done Milos, or if peace matters more than choice. Smartest of all: base in Milos's Pollonia and day-trip to Kimolos, or split the week 5–2.
