Symi in 2 Days
Gialos harbour, the medieval Chorio, the Panormitis monastery and the hidden beaches of the east coast.
Symi in 2 days, day by day: what to see, in what order, how far you drive and where you sleep. Base: Symi Town. It works without a car.
Gialos & Chorio
Gialos Harbour
Arrive by ferry or day boat from Rhodes (1 hour). The first view of the harbour as you enter is unforgettable β an amphitheatre of painted neoclassical mansions rising from the water.

Nautical Museum
The story of Symi's extraordinary maritime heritage β sponge diving, shipbuilding, the trade with Egypt. The model ships alone are worth the entry.

Kali Strata Steps
The 500 steps from the harbour up to the old medieval capital of Chorio β one of the most photographed stair climbs in Greece. Take your time; there are cafes to stop at on the way up.

Chorio (Medieval Capital)
The Byzantine capital at the top of the hill β much quieter than the harbour, with views over both sides of the island. The Knights' castle at the summit was destroyed by Allied bombs in WWII but the ruins remain.

Nos Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β

Panormitis Monastery
The most famous monastery in the Dodecanese β dedicated to the Archangel Michael, patron of sailors. The bell tower is the tallest in the Dodecanese. Beautiful sheltered bay setting in the south of the island.

Agios Georgios Dysalona Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
Dramatic pebble beach on the east coast beneath 300m cliffs β accessible only by boat from Gialos (20 min). The water is exceptional. Day cruises stop here.
