Mandraki Harbour
10:00

Palace of the Grand Master

The finest example of Gothic architecture in Greece. Former seat of the Knights of St John. Impressive mosaics inside.

Palace of the Grand Master
11:30

Street of the Knights
16:30

Kallithea Springs

Stunning Italian-built thermal spa complex from the 1920s on the coast. Beautiful architecture and a clear swimming cove.

Kallithea Springs
18:00

Elli Beach

Town beach just north of the Old Town. Evening swim, then dinner in the old town.

Elli Beach
🍽 Dinner Β· Rhodes Old Town The Old Town is the night's setting. Marco Polo CafΓ© is the upscale choice β€” the candlelit courtyard of a restored Ottoman-quarter mansion, consistently rated among the island's best. Nireas is the family-run seafood institution (impeccable service, fair prices), and Hatzikelis serves celebrated seafood among ancient stone ruins.
πŸŒ™ Evening Rhodes Town splits in two after dark. The medieval Old Town hides candle-lit wine bars and rooftop lounges in its stone alleys β€” perfect for an early drink. Then the new town's Bar Street (Orfanidou) is the loud strip: Colorado Club and Gazi anchor it, and nothing fills until midnight. Package-resort Faliraki, 14km south, is the other option.
DAY 2

West Side β€” Kamiros, Butterflies & Kritinia

85 km Β· 95 min πŸŒ™ Sleep: Rhodes Town
09:00

Kritinia Castle

Ruined Knights' castle on a hilltop with panoramic sea views toward Turkey. Free entry. Small cafe at the base with wine and honey tastings.

Kritinia Castle
10:30

Valley of the Butterflies

Unique valley where thousands of Jersey tiger moths gather in summer on the sweet storax trees. Shaded walks beside streams.

Valley of the Butterflies
12:30

Ancient Kamiros

Ruins of one of the three ancient city-states of Rhodes β€” temples, stoas and a Hellenistic reservoir. Far less visited than Lindos but equally impressive.

Ancient Kamiros
17:00

Rhodes Town

Return to Rhodes Town for the night. Dinner in the Old Town.

Rhodes Town
🍽 Lunch · Embonas wine village Worth the short inland detour to the wine village of Embonas under Mount Attavyros. Taverna Savvas and Bakis both do great-value spreads of grilled local meat with the village's famous wine; Maroulakis is the quieter local favourite off the tour-bus track. Prefer the coast? Kamiros Beach Taverna is right on the route.
πŸŒ™ Evening Back in Rhodes Town β€” the Old Town has plenty beyond the Bar Street strip. Macao Bar mixes 20-odd cocktails around a 13m watermill in its courtyard and draws the well-dressed crowd; Sissitio pours creative drinks among ancient walls and cobbled lanes.
DAY 3

The South β€” Monolithos & Siana

140 km Β· 150 min πŸŒ™ Sleep: Rhodes Town
08:30

Rhodes Town

Early departure heading south down the west coast β€” the longest driving day of the trip.

Rhodes Town
10:00

Glystra Beach πŸ– beach card Β· wind & conditions β†’

Sheltered sandy cove in the south with shallow, warm water. One of the least crowded excellent beaches on the island. Add 80 km round-trip if you want to push on to Prasonisi at the southern tip β€” a dramatic sandbar where the Aegean and Mediterranean meet, world-class for windsurfing.

Glystra Beach
15:00

Siana Village

Mountain village famous for souma (local spirit) and thyme honey. Stop at a local shop for tastings β€” both are exceptional.

Siana Village
16:30

Monolithos Castle

15th century Knights' castle perched on a 240-metre rock pinnacle with sheer drop views to the sea. The finest sunset viewpoint on Rhodes.

Monolithos Castle
21:30

Evening in Rhodes Town

Long drive back from the southwest to Rhodes Town (about 1.5 hours). The journey itself is part of the day β€” through the mountain villages and back along the coast as evening falls.

Evening in Rhodes Town
🍽 Lunch Β· Monolithos In the cliff-top village of Monolithos. Christos Corner is the warm one β€” Christos walks you to the fridge to pick your fish or meat for the charcoal. Old Monolithos does mezze on a panoramic terrace, and Taverna Panorama earns its name with the view.
πŸŒ™ Evening Another Old Town night, different corners. Soho Bar by the fountain on Ippokratous Square is the classic start to a Rhodes bar-crawl; Monkey Cocktail Bar is the hidden-gem spot for adventurous, bold-flavoured cocktails.
DAY 4

East Coast β†’ Lindos

75 km Β· 90 min πŸŒ™ Sleep: Lindos
09:00

Rhodes Town

Depart south along the scenic east coast road.

Rhodes Town
10:00

Anthony Quinn Bay πŸ– beach card Β· wind & conditions β†’

Iconic emerald cove named after the actor who filmed The Guns of Navarone here. Extraordinary clarity β€” bring a snorkel.

Ladiko Beach

Secluded pebble bay just 5 minutes walk from Anthony Quinn. Rocky seabed excellent for snorkelling, fewer crowds.

Ladiko Beach
13:30

Climb the 300 steps to the hilltop Byzantine monastery for sweeping views over the coast and beach below.

Tsambika Monastery
17:00

Agathi Beach πŸ– beach card Β· wind & conditions β†’

Golden sand and crystal clear water beneath Feraklos Castle. One of the finest beaches on the island. Morning swim before the crowds arrive.

Agathi Beach
18:30

Lindos

Arrive in Lindos in the late afternoon. Check in, then walk down to the village for dinner with the Acropolis lit up above.

Lindos
🍽 Dinner Β· Lindos You're staying in Lindos β€” make tonight count. Mavrikos is the island's most celebrated table, run by the same family since 1933 and listed in the Greek Gastronomy Guide; book ahead. Melenos is the upscale rooftop with candlelit Acropolis views, and Kalypso is the family-run Captain's House with a rooftop terrace and great value.
πŸŒ™ Evening Lindos is the calm counterpoint. As the Acropolis lights up on the rock above, the village's rooftop bars come into their own β€” Ktima Lindos looks out over Vlycha Bay. Drinks and a long dinner under the floodlit citadel, not a club night.
DAY 5

Lindos & Departure

70 km Β· 80 min
11:00

Lindos Acropolis

3rd century BC acropolis with a Doric temple of Athena Lindia perched above a sheer 116-metre cliff. One of the most dramatic ancient sites in Greece.

Lindos Acropolis
12:30

Lindos Village

Dazzling white cubist houses in maze-like lanes. Browse the galleries and craftshops before lunch.

Lindos Village
16:00

St Paul's Bay

Heart-shaped bay just south of Lindos with crystal water and the Acropolis looming above. One of the most beautiful spots in Greece.

St Paul's Bay
17:00

Rhodes Town β€” Departure

Drive back to Rhodes Town for ferry or flight departure. Final coffee at Mandraki harbour.

Rhodes Town β€” Departure
🍽 Lunch Β· Lindos A last rooftop lunch over the village. Mythos arguably has the best view of all β€” the Acropolis on one side, the sea on the other. Dionysos does a big range of Greek dishes on a breezy terrace. For the famous Mavrikos, lunch is the quieter time to get a table.

Planning questions

Is 5 days enough for Rhodes?

Yes, for a first visit. The plan covers the essentials at a pace that leaves time in the water. With one more day, add a slow beach day with no driving.

Do I need a car on Rhodes?

Yes. The beaches and villages are spread out and the bus does not reach the ones that matter; book ahead for July and August.

Where should I stay on Rhodes?

The plan sleeps in Rhodes Town and Lindos, so you are not crossing the island every morning.
