Milos in 4 Days
Sarakiniko at sunrise, Kleftiko by boat, the fishing villages of the north coast and the golden beaches of the south.
Four days is the right length for Milos: one for the lunar north coast, one on the water for Kleftiko, one for the south-coast beaches, and a last morning for the Venus site and the catacombs before the afternoon ferry. It assumes a hire car or ATV from day one β Milos without wheels is a much smaller island.
Sarakiniko & the North
Adamas (Port)
Arrive and pick up your rental car or ATV β essential on Milos. The port has good cafes for breakfast before heading out.

Sarakiniko Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
The most iconic beach in the Cyclades β bone-white volcanic rock formations carved into a lunar landscape, dropping into deep turquoise water. Go early for the best light and to avoid the midday crowds. Walk the full extent of the rocks β there are multiple swimming spots and a small cave beach.

Papafragas Sea Caves
10 minutes from Sarakiniko β a natural sea arch and swimming channel cut into the white volcanic rock. You swim through the narrow channel into a completely enclosed rock pool. One of the best swimming spots on the island.

Firopotamos Village π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
Charming fishing village with brightly painted syrmata β the ground-floor boathouses that are unique to Milos. Lunch at the small taverna on the beach. The church on the headland is perfectly photogenic.

Plaka Village
The hilltop capital of Milos β a beautiful Cycladic village with a Venetian kastro and extraordinary sunset views over the caldera and the western sea. The best sunset viewpoint on the island.
Dinner in Adamas
Drive back down to Adamas (about 10 minutes from Plaka). The waterfront tavernas around the harbour are the social heart of the island in the evening β Mikros Apoplous and the seafood places along the dock are favourites.
Kleftiko Boat Trip
Adamas β Boat Departure
Full or half-day boat tour from Adamas port β essential for Kleftiko and the inaccessible west coast beaches. Book the night before. Most tours stop at 5-6 locations.
Kleftiko Sea Caves π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
The finest sea cave complex in the Cyclades β white rock arches, sea caves and hidden coves at the southwestern tip of Milos. Former pirate hideout. Swim through the caves and snorkel the crystal water. The rock formations are extraordinary.

Gerakas Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
White sand and turquoise water in a cove only accessible by boat. One of the finest beaches on the island β boat tours stop here for lunch and swimming.

Tsigrado Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
Tiny secluded beach reached by descending a rope ladder through a crack in the cliffs. The access is the adventure β the beach below is tiny but beautiful. Also accessible by boat.
Dinner in Adamas
Drive back to Adamas (about 25 minutes from the south coast). Salt-crusted, sun-tired, ready for dinner along the harbour.
South Coast Beaches
Firiplaka Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
The best swimming beach on Milos β golden sand framed by dramatic yellow, pink and white volcanic cliffs, with shallow turquoise water. Organised with sunbeds. The most beautiful sandy beach on the island. Go before midday to get a sunbed.

Paleochori Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
Sandy south-coast beach with a unique feature β natural thermal vents bubble through the volcanic sand, warming the water and the beach itself. Several good tavernas directly on the beach.

Klima Village
The most photographed fishing village in the Cyclades β two-storey syrmata with boats at ground level and brightly painted upper rooms. A 15-minute drive from Adamas. Walk the seafront at golden hour.

Pollonia π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
Small resort village on the northeast coast with a sandy beach, good restaurants and ferry connections to Kimolos. Stay overnight here for an early start.

Dinner: Pollonia or Adamas π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
Drive back from Pollonia to Adamas (about 15 minutes). Pollonia itself has good food if you prefer to stay β Enalion and Hanabi are local favourites β but most travellers head back to base.
Venus, Catacombs & Departure
Site of the Venus de Milo
The exact spot where the 2nd-century BC masterpiece was found in 1820, near the ancient theatre. A replica marks the site. The original is in the Louvre; a cast is in the local museum in Plaka.
Catacombs of Milos
The earliest Christian catacombs outside Rome β 1st-2nd century AD burial galleries carved into the volcanic rock. Guided tours only. Surprisingly moving.
Achivadolimni Beach π beach card Β· wind & conditions β
The longest beach on Milos β a long sandy shore on the east coast near Adamas. Protected from the north winds. Good for families.

Adamas β Departure
Ferry or flight from Milos. The ferry back to Piraeus sails past the extraordinary west coast β stand on deck for the view.
Planning questions
Is 4 days enough for Milos?
Yes, for a first visit. Three days covers the north, Kleftiko and the south coast; the fourth adds the Venus site, the catacombs and a slow morning. A fifth day goes to Kimolos by the 20-minute ferry from Pollonia.
Do I need a car on Milos?
Yes. The beaches are spread around 150 kmΒ² of coast with no useful bus to the south. A small car is easier than an ATV on the dirt tracks to Tsigrado and Firiplaka. Book ahead in July and August.
Where should I stay on Milos?
Adamas for the port, the boat tours and the widest choice of rooms; Pollonia if you want a quieter base with a beach and the Kimolos ferry; Plaka for the views and the sunset, but you drive down for everything else.
