Feast of the Annunciation, Messaria

25 March

The hamlet of Messaria keeps 25 March with a liturgy and kerasmata for the few dozen islanders who are around in spring, doubling as the national holiday. Only for those already on the island out of season.

Dormition panigiri of Panagia Akathi, Chora

14–15 August

Panagia Akathi in Chora is the island's church, and its Dormition feast on 14-15 August is the one night of the year the whole of Schinoussa, plus visitors from Iraklia and Koufonisi, sits down together: patatato and other local dishes served free after the liturgy, wine, and violin-and-laouto dancing until late. Book a room well ahead; the island has few.

Panigiri of Agios Nikolaos, Mersini

5–6 December

The port of Mersini celebrates the sailors' saint on 6 December with a liturgy and a communal meal for the islanders who winter on Schinoussa. Worth knowing only if you are there in December.

Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar. If you know better, the feedback button exists for exactly this.
