23 April
The port village is named for its church of St George, and on 23 April (or Easter Monday in Lent years) the liturgy is followed by a feast in the church courtyard with food and wine for everyone. The island's spring gathering, before the first tourists.
14–15 August · Panagia (Chora)
The upper village of Panagia celebrates its church on 14-15 August with a vigil, the liturgy, and a panigiri in the church courtyard: goat and patatato cooked by the community, wine, and violins until late, with boats bringing people over from Schinoussa and Naxos. Walk up from the port (30 minutes) or take the minibus.
28–29 August · Cave of Agios Ioannis, south of Panagia
On the evening of 28 August the vespers for the Beheading of St John is sung inside the first great chamber of the Agios Ioannis cave, an hour's rough walk south of Panagia, with candles and crowds who come over from the neighbouring islands, followed by kerasmata outside. Take a torch and good shoes; the path is stony and the walk back is in the dark.
7–8 November · Agios Nektarios / Panagia
Two feasts back to back in November: the Archangels on 8 November and Agios Nektarios on the 9th at the chapel of the same name, each with a liturgy and a meal in the churchyard for the islanders who stay through winter. Only for the committed off-season visitor.
Dates are resolved for 2027: fixed saint's days as they fall, movable feasts computed from Orthodox Easter (2027: 2 May). Panigiria are usually held on the eve of the saint's day, and a village occasionally shifts one to the nearest weekend — where an entry says "confirm locally", the date comes from recent years' announcements rather than an official calendar.
