DESCRIPTION:Samos's biggest date: the Transfiguration is also the anniversary of the 1824 naval victory over the Ottomans off Mycale. On the evening of 5 August the icon is carried from the church of the Metamorfosi to the harbour (around 21:00)\, followed at 22:00 by a re-enactment of the sea battle with fireworks and a harbour-front glendi\; on 6 August there is a hierarchical liturgy\, wreath-laying at the Lykourgos Logothetis monument and dance groups in the square.
