DESCRIPTION:Each 8 November the monastery and the Region of Crete mark the 1866 siege in which the defenders blew up the powder store rather than surrender: a memorial liturgy\, wreath-laying at the ossuary\, speeches and a parade of the local schools and associations\, with vespers and events the evening before.
