DESCRIPTION:The mountain town of Agiasos and its church of Panagia (Agia Sion) host the great Dormition pilgrimage of the northern Aegean: pilgrims walk the 27 km from Mytilene on the night of 14 August and sleep in the church courtyard\, the icon is carried round the church after the liturgy\, and the square then fills with folk orchestras and dancing. Agiasos is also famous for its own musicians and carnival\, so the party is genuine.
