DESCRIPTION:On 1-2 September pilgrims head to the monastery of Agios Mamas\, perched on a cliff above the Libyan Sea south of the island: vespers\, then lamb offered by the shepherds\, roasted and served with pilaf\, dolmadakia and fried potatoes to 400-plus people by a chain of volunteers\, with the Perselis family playing the old Kasiot tunes. Many stay overnight in the monastery cells.
