SUMMARY:Stifado of the Panagia (15 August)\, Oxylithos
LOCATION:Oxylithos (Kymi)\, Evia (Central)\, Greece
DESCRIPTION:The most famous Dekapentavgoustos custom in Evia: at the church of Panagia Petriotissa in Oxylithos\, near Kymi\, the bell rings on the afternoon of 14 August\, fires are lit under dozens (locally 'over 200') of cauldrons and volunteers stew beef with tons of onions all night\, nobody tasting\, until it is blessed and served free to everyone after the liturgy on the 15th. Neighbouring Kalimeriani and Potamia keep the same custom. Thousands come from Athens\; sleep in Kymi or Platana and get there before the 8 am liturgy.\n\nhttps://aegeanblueprint.com/festivals/evia-central/#oxylithos-kymi-stifado-of-the-panagia-15-august-oxylithos
